We welcome queries from people interested in joining our team or collaborating with us in other ways. The place to start is with an email to Professor Denver: denvedee[at]oregonstate.edu.
For prospective graduate students interested in joining the lab:
We recruit new MS and PhD students through the OSU Integrative Biology graduate program. The Integrative Biology graduate program guarantees full stipend and tuition support for MS students (at least 2 years) and PhD students ( at least 5 years) though Graduate Teaching Assistant and Graduate Research Assistant positions. We welcome inquiries from people from all backgrounds and lived experiences, including both domestic (United States) and international students.
The application deadline for the IB graduate program is December 1, for Fall admission the following year. Interested prospective graduate students should contact Dr. Denver by email (see above) to express their interest no later than November 1, and the earlier the better. The introductory email should include information about the prospective student's interest in the lab and past experiences of relevance. The message should also include a curriculum vita/resume. Professor Denver will reply to all inquiries; invitations to meet by Zoom will be offered to those students for which he feels there is potential for a strong match. A series of interactions - including multiple 1:1 meetings with Professor Denver via Zoom and also some meetings with other lab members - will be required prior to the December 1 application due date. After these interactions, Dr. Denver will encourage submission of official IB graduate program applications from those prospective students that he feels are best aligned with the lab's values, culture, approach, and research directions. Full applications are then considered by Dr. Denver along with an IB graduate application committee. Official decisions on program acceptance are typically made in February.
For prospective undergraduate students interested in joining the lab:
We partner with many programs on the OSU campus to offer research opportunities for undergraduates; these include the Undergraduate Research, Scholarship, and Arts (URSA) program, the University Honors College (we welcome inquiries from students interested in pursuing Honors thesis work with us), the STEM Leaders program, and the New Beginnings for Tribal Students program. Undergraduate students interested in working with us should check out one or more of these programs, and/or contact Professor Denver by email (denvedee[at]oregonstate.edu). For email inquiries, please provide introductions (your name, academic major, other important information to you) and a brief description of why you are interested in a research experience, specifically with our team.
